Barack Obama is the U.S senator from Illinois. He was born Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu Hawaii. His father was from Kenya and his mother was a white female from Kansa, U.S. He was raised by his mother and grandparents in a non religious house hold. In 1983 he graduated from Columbia University in New York with a degree in political science. He then worked at a business international corporation and NYPIRG. Then he moved to Chicago in 1985 and became a low-income community organizer. In 1988 Obama attended Harvard Law School and met his wife Michelle. They now have two little girls together. In 1991 he graduated with his law degree and magma cum laude. He was a civil rights lawyer in Chicago and taught at the University of Chicago. In 1996, he was elected as Illinois state senate democrat. He drafted legislation on ethics, expanded health care, and childhood education for the poor. He also created state income tax credits to help the people. In 2000 he had an unsuccessful democratic primary run for the U.S. House of Representative. Obama won 52% of votes for U.S senate open seat in 2004. Another major event for Obama in 2004 was when he was invited to deliver the key note speech for John Kerry at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. In November 2004 he became the third African American to be elected to the U.S senate because he received 70% at the general election. In 2007 Barack Obama announced his candidacy for the 2008 Democratic Presidential nominee. He became the presumptive nominee on June 3, 2008.
Barack Obama has beliefs for each issue of America. He supports abortion rights and in order to reduce abortions he advocates a comprehensive sex education program. He believes in the importance of the separation of church and the state, but a sense of proportion should guide how it is enforced. He supports the charter schools, but he is skeptic about private schools. Barack Obama has and still does propose energy plans to reduce population. In July 2008 he announced a plan to establish a council of faith-based and neighborhood partnerships. He also supports gay marriage and a stronger enforcement of the borders. He implements universal health care or government health insurance for all Americans. In 2005, Obama voted for the stem cell research enhancement act. Currently, Barack Obama’s top issue is the economy.
