Bio sketch- Joe Biden

Delaware senator, Joe Biden is the running mate for the democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama. Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. was born on November 20, 1942 in Seranton, Pennsylvania. He is of the Irish Catholic heritage and he attended catholic prep school. In 1965 he received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware. He received his law degree in 1968 from Syracuse University of New York. Back in Delaware he worked as trial attorney at a law firm serving as a public defender. From 1970 to 1972 he served on the New Castle County Council. Joe became the fifth youngest senator in history when he was elected into the U.S senate at age 29 in 1972. He also became Delaware’s longest serving senator after he was re-elected five times, with at least 58% of the vote. Unfortunately, Joe Biden lost his first wife, Neilia Hunter, and his infant daughter when they were involved in a car accident. His two sons lived but had temporary injuries. In January 1973 he was sworn into office and in 1977 he re-married. He recently has five grand children. As a senator he focused on foreign relations, criminal justice and drug policy. Biden was the chairman of the Judiciary Committee from 1987 to 1995. He pursued the democratic presidential nomination of 1988, but then withdrew after parts of his campaign stump had been plagiarized from the British Labour Party, without appropriate attribution. In February 1988 he was struck down by two brain aneurysms, but returned to the senate seven months later after almost dying. He was also an adjunct professor, member of the International Narcotics Control Caucus, was lead senator in writing the law that established the drug czar, and is prone to verbal gaffes. Lastly, he served on the senates Foreign Relations, twice; first in 2001-2003 and second in 2007-present day. Majority of Biden’s work has been involved in the senate. He announced his campaign on August 23, 2008 and accepted to be Obama’s running mate on August 27, 2008 at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Joe Biden supports some issues and is against other issues. He supports federal funding for stem cell research, but is against partial birth abortion and opposes public funding for abortions. He considers the Violent Against women Act and does not agree with domestic violence. Also, he voted for the final U.S senate resolution authorizing the invasion of Iraq, but became a continuous critic of Bush Administration policies there because Biden wanted a plan to maintain united, peaceful Iraq. He supports the issues or does not due to what he and he believes in.
